“As a licensed LCSW clinician, I have worked with teens, young adults, couples and older adults for thirty-six years.  My private practice has been operative since 1998. I generally like working with clients who are beginning to understand that they can choose their path and want to work with someone to discuss their own understandings, wants, and needs as they move toward change. I have office hours in New Paltz six days out of the week. One day a week I open my office in New York City.”
Along with all other Connections Counseling staff, Ruth is working remotely during the COVID-19 crisis.
Experiences with teaching/training: “Supervising and training Bachelor’s Degree psychology students in their field placements at the University of Michigan during my MSW training led me toward expertise in teaching, field work supervision and the understanding of mental health issues in social work. I was an adjunct instructor in the Master’s Degree Social Work program at Fordham University for seven years, teaching general social work classes as well as clinical assessment and diagnosis. I am currently engaged in creating classes (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Co-Occurring Disorders) for long distance learning, and doing research on what motivates clinicians to use these practices. I am currently supervising an LMHC student in her practicum at the Connections Counseling practice.”
