July 4, 2025

Watching the Macy’s fireworks spill and shoot over the East River, I’m finding hope again.
So many passionate voices are re-affirming that this country is for all of us, and we can find our place here and celebrate who we are. ”Choose joy, and see the beauty around you every day!”
Thoughts of the last week’s contacts with brave people who are fighting to keep us free . ..

. . . An oldster, like me, who is out protesting on the streets of NYC until she can go no further. After she stumbles, she just parks herself on the sidewalk and, when she opens her eyes, people around her are fanning her to make sure she can recover from what might be a heat stroke.

. . . a man who works with Equality New York, who tells me that they have successfully collaborated with the NY Public Library to sponsor the Freedom to Read Act. He is so stoked, wanting to make a difference for all the “moms, young people. . . .everyone!” no matter what their background.

….a young man from a Chinese family who believes enough in the American dream that he is spending (a lot!) of his own money to declare his right to complain about unfair treatment to his Congresspeople. A corporation is targetin him, but the SLAPP law in New York State is helping him find his voice.

…and our study, sketching the idea that counselors across the US respond to an inner moral compass and their ethical self-efficacy to make important choices as uncertainty about direction grows. We partnered with NASW chapters and social workers in four states, with colleagues from NY City of Technology, the University of Michigan, and the Institute for Futures Studies in Sweden to craft the study. It’s submitted for publication today, so we’re celebrating. . .

HAPPY FOURTH TO YOU ALL!

And, of course, an invitation to take advantage of our 4th of July sale on recorded courses!
