Important Research Information for all who are considering participating in this Trauma Treatment Study
New York State residents (or those who can situate in New York State for therapy) are being recruited for a trauma treatment research study happening NOW. We (Connections Counseling PLLC) are inviting you to participate in research efforts which will be in progress throughout 2028. The trauma study is a clinical trial which explores your experience of trauma treatment. The treatment method used with those who participate is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), with an Attachment Focus (AF).
Selected participants will have/be:
> 18 years of age or over
> able to participate in outpatient mental health treatment in English
> not be actively using substances during the treatment
> not living in a situation which is trauma-inducing
> not be in litigation or contemplating litigation concerning the trauma
> not be undergoing treatment for the same diagnosis elsewhere
> posttraumatic stress as measured by the PCL5
> insecure attachment with at least one parental figure, measured by the Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR-RS) scale
> must agree to allow the sessions to be transcribed for analysis
If you decide to participate in these research efforts, your de-identified answers to all questions will be used in research supported by Connections Counseling PLLC. Any personal answers you give will be kept confidential to the full extent of the law. The research protocol will have been approved by the North Star IRB before the study begins. No other organization has participated in designing the research nor do they endorse these studies. Read the Informed Consent information concerning risks, benefits, research protection measures, and confidentiality, outlined at the RESEARCH FAQs/Informed Consent link. Any New York State (NYS) resident (or those who can situate in NYS for therapy) can qualify to participate in the clinical trial of trauma treatment by taking tests for posttraumatic stress (PCL5 scores of over 30 qualify) and the Experiences in Close Relationships scale (ECR-RS measuring insecure attachment with at least one parent qualify). Call Andrew Schaeffer, LMHC at 646-586-5597 for more information.
